What does “SAR” mean?
In1996,theFCC,workingwiththe
FDA,theU.S.EnvironmentalProtection
Agency,andotheragencies,established
RFexposuresafetyguidelinesfor
wirelessphonesintheUnitedStates.
Beforeawirelessphonemodelis
availableforsaletothepublic,itmust
betestedbythemanufacturerand
certiedtotheFCCthatitdoesnot
exceedlimitsestablishedbytheFCC.
Oneoftheselimitsisexpressedasa
SpecicAbsorptionRate,or“SAR.”SAR
isameasureoftherateofabsorption
ofRFenergyinthebody.Testsfor
SARareconductedwiththephone
transmittingatitshighestpowerlevelin
alltestedfrequencybands.Since1996,
theFCChasrequiredthattheSARof
handheldwirelessphonesnotexceed
1.6wattsperkilogram,averagedover
