Turn the device on
and off
To turn on the device, press the
POWER button. When you turn
on the device for the first time,
you are asked to complete a
calibration process. For more
information, see Calibrate the
device” on next page.
To turn off the device, press
P
again.
Note
v
Pressing
P
turns off your device
temporarily and switches the
device to sleep mode. However,
you can still receive messages and
calls while your device is in the
sleep mode.
Reset the device
Occasionally you may need to
reset your device. A normal (or
soft) reset of your device clears
all active program memory and
shuts down all active programs.
This can be useful when the
device is running slower than
normal, or a program is not
performing properly. A soft
reset is also necessary after the
installation of some programs.
If a soft reset is performed when
programs are running, unsaved
work will be lost.
You can also perform a hard
reset (also known as a full
reset). A hard reset should be
performed only if a normal
reset does not solve a system
problem. After a hard reset, the
device is restored to its default
settings—the way it was when
you first purchased it and
turned it on. Any programs you
installed, data you entered, and
settings you customized on the
device will be lost.
To perform a soft reset
Re-attach the battery and
press the POWER button on
the right side of your device.
The device restarts and
displays the Today screen.
To perform a hard reset
Press and hold both
buttons(Send+Volume Down)
shown enclosed by circles in
the picture below. Keep these
keys pressed, and at the same
time, press the POWER button
on the right side of your
device. And hold both buttons
for a while (about 10 seconds).
